Katy Guest is a deputy opinion editor at the Guardian. Prior to that she was a commissioning editor on the Guardian’s books and obituaries desks, a freelance reviewer, editor, journalist, events chair and occasional bricklayer. She was the literary editor of the Independent on Sunday for seven years, and a journalist at the Independent titles for 18 years in total, until 2016. She has judged prizes such as the Desmond Elliott Prize, the Aesthetica short story prize, Fiction Uncovered and the Royal Society Insight Investment Science Book Prize.
